Bracknell, UK, 3 April 2012 – Diversified technology company 3M has announced the winners of its 3M Commercial Graphics Wrap and Win campaign with NASCAR. Martin Prodger (managing director) and Ian Richards (branch manager) of Signs Express in Reading enjoyed an all-expenses paid, four-day trip to Florida to see the world’s largest motorsport event. The winning deal involved use of 3M’s primary Controltac Graphic Film IJ380 and was sold by Alison Roberts of Spandex.

The trip included return flights from London, car hire for the duration of the visit, free accommodation at Daytona Beach and tickets to the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Racing) Sprint Cup Series race. The winners were also given NASCAR VIP access plus the chance to meet the 3M-sponsored Roush Fenway motorsports team and 3M driver Greg Biffle.

“It was a fantastic prize to win. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel like VIPs by all at 3M US,“ commented Martin Prodger of Signs Express Reading. “Not only did we get up close to many of the drivers, we were also able to walk right down the middle of the starting grid in between the cars all lined up ready to roll. We met some of the support crew in the team trailer, had a look in the garages where the cars were being inspected by NASCAR officials and even sat with The Pit Bulls, the 3M pit crew, waiting for the race to start. As the sounds of 'Star Spangled Banner' faded into the background, a flight of F-15 Thunderbirds from the United States Air Force literally 'thundered' overhead - the sound of jets and the smell of gasoline were a petrol head’s heaven.

“During our visit we also had the chance to experience some vehicle wrapping demonstrations on the 3M trade stand using the 3M 1080 series. We both took away some interesting new techniques, which we are looking to put in place at our Signs Express centre in Reading,” Prodger continued.

The six-month campaign was hosted on a 3M Wrap and Win microsite and was open to purchasers of 3M Commercial Graphics high quality graphics portfolio for bespoke printed vehicle wrapping, colour change wrapping for car or van personalisation and signage applications. The winning Signs Express project involved 3M’s primary Controltac Graphic Film IJ380, supplied by Spandex. As a major trade supplier to the signmaking and printing industries, Spandex stocks the entire range of 3M films and the majority are available for next day delivery.

In addition to the top prize, 3M ran monthly prize draws from July to December 2011. Three winners were drawn every month to receive £100 in vouchers – these included Media Fleet, PVL, AD Bell Sign Systems, Signs Express Slough, StarVinyls, AGX, Corby Graphix, Image Group Manchester, Blue Orange Signs, Rood Signs, Signs Express, All Signs, Matt Vinyl Graphics, Trustmark Design and Print and Owen Kerr Signs. “The Wrap and Win campaign is a great example of 3M’s dedication to customer engagement,” said Richard Davies, Trade Marketing Manager for 3M’s Commercial Graphics division. “Our objective was to connect with the local sign maker and vehicle wrapper community in a fun, creative way, which NASCAR helped us to achieve.”

NASCAR is the most viewed professional sport in terms of television ratings in the US and NASCAR races are broadcast in more than 150 countries worldwide. 3M has sponsored NASCAR for over 10 years but the company’s involvement extends beyond this. The majority of NASCAR Sprint Cup cars feature a 3M logo on the front wing because they use Controltac Graphic Film Series IJ180. The film is favoured for its reliable performance, expert finish and speed to apply. Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080 from 3M is also used on many NASCAR vehicles. During the 2012 NASCAR season‚ visitors can watch a car being customised with Scotchprint Wrap Film Series 1080 in a demonstration area outside of the track to showcase a variety of the film’s distinct combinations of colours and finishes.
