Visit Devon is working closely with regional tourism partners to consider the support it can give to the industry following the announcement that the regional tourist board South West Tourism is to close next year. South West Tourism plays a major strategic and planning role for tourism in the region and it is funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, which is being closed down due to government budget cuts. Visit Devon the voice of tourism in the county is now working closely with South West Tourism and other partners to ensure that key support structures and skills are not lost. The General Manager of Visit Devon, Rosie Bates says that tourism groups will be looking at new ways to structure tourism strategy for the region: “ We want to reassure local tourism businesses that there is a strong relationship between the South West destination partners and that the industry can meet the challenges that it is now facing. We will be considering how various roles and strategic planning can be worked out and to ensure that a smooth transition is put in place so that the tourism industry has a strong and effective voice in the region.” About Visit Devon Visit Devon is the destination management organisation responsible for promoting Devon to the world.
