The Schools Inspectorate has given Praktiska Gymnasiet, an upper secondary school, in Karlskrona an injunction with a threat of a fine amounting to SEK 1.5 million. There is a prior injunction with a potential fine of SEK 650 000.

The shortcomings identified in the School Inspectorate’s resolution are in the areas of areas of teaching and learning, the students’ right to special support as well as grades and assessment.

– This is of course very serious and we can conclude that the activities that we initiated during the spring last year have not been sufficient. It takes time to turn a school around and we now must step up our efforts to improve even more, says Jens Eriksson, Head of the business segment Upper Secondary Schools.

The school now has until August 2019 to amend the new deficiencies identified in order to avoid the fine. The Schools Inspectorate has not yet resolved about the injunction with a potential fine from April 2018.

Praktiska Gymnasiet’s 33 upper secondary schools were a part of the Vindora acquisition completed in November 2017. As previously communicated, The Schools Inspectorate are currently performing planned audits of a number of Praktiska Gymnasiet’s upper secondary schools. Praktiska is now doing its utmost to amend the deficiencies. However, further resolutions of this kind are expected. The fact that some of these schools had quality issues was known at the time of acquisition and reflected in the purchase price.

Further information about the resolution from the Schools Inspectorate can be found on AcadeMedia’s Swedish website.
