ÅF Finland won consulting agreement from Lithuania
“Vilniaus kogeneracinė jėgainė“, owned by state-owned energy group of companies “Lietuvos energija“, has signed a contract with ÅF-Consult. ÅF-Consult will perform Owner’s engineer, FIDIC engineer and technical supervision services for a new co-generation power plant to be constructed in Vilnius. The contract value is 3.4 million EUR. The contract duration is three years.
The tendering process was conducted under international public tender rules.
"We are now ready to start with the construction works of the Vilnius co-generation plan. We expect the plant to start operations in heating season 2018-2019. It will also help to reduce waste disposal to landfills and reduce prices for heating", says Saulius Barauskas, Chief Executive Officer of "Vilniaus kogeneracinė jėgainė".

The Vilnius cogeneration power plant was recognised as a project of national economic significance by the Government Resolution No 486. The estimated total cost of the project is about 350 million EUR. The European Investment Bank has granted a 190 million EUR loan for the construction of the new power plant. Once the co-generation power plant is in operation, the problem of waste accumulation in landfills will be solved, and the energy costs for the urban population will be reduced. Also, increased energy security and clean energy production from renewable and local energy resources is ensured.
