The Republic of the Union of Myanmar has engaged the services of ÅF as part of a project implementation consultancy assignment for the Power Distribution Improvement Project in Myanmar.

The Ministry of Electric Power of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has engaged the services of ÅF as part of a project implementation consultancy assignment for the Power Distribution Improvement Project in Myanmar (funded by the Asian Development Bank). The three-year contract, which is worth USD 3.4 million, was signed on 18 December 2014 and will involve five international experts and five local experts. ÅF was chosen as a partner because of its consultants’ high level of expertise, strong project implementation consultancy references and the company’s extensive experience of working in Myanmar.

The beneficiary agencies for the project are Yangon Electricity Supply Board and Electricity Supply Enterprise, which supplies the rest of the country.
The Power Distribution Improvement Project comprises the retrofit, replacement, improvement and new installation of distribution assets, including distribution lines, substations, transformers, control and automation, etc. The project will be implemented in different areas in the Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway regions.

The ÅF office in Spain will implement the project by providing expertise in the areas of distribution, procurement, substations, civil works and finance. The role of ÅF will be specifically, but not exclusively, to support the client with the following:

  • Procurement of the equipment to be installed;
  • Implementation guidance and monitoring tools;
  • Assets commissioning;
  • Quality Assurance processes; and
  • Financial and economic aspects related to the project.

The consultants joined the project at the beginning of 2015 and work has progressed according to schedule.
