All Children's Hospital Chief Patient Safety Officer Joins the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality Faculty
St. Petersburg, Fla. – September 22, 2014 – Brigitta Mueller, M.D., chief patient safety officer and vice president of medical affairs at All Children’s Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, has been selected to serve a three-year appointment as a core faculty member of the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. Throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Armstrong Institute coordinates safety and quality improvement efforts and also develops and tests solutions in safety and quality improvement that can be shared with and spread throughout the world.
Mueller will work with other Johns Hopkins Medicine safety and quality investigators to reduce preventable harm, enhance outcomes for all patients and reduce waste in the health care system. The team of more than 40 core faculty members attends and participates in quarterly meetings and other institute-sponsored meetings and conferences. “Serving as a faculty member of the Armstrong Institute is a great honor and provides me with an opportunity to represent All Children’s Hospital within the Johns Hopkins community. I also get to support and champion patient safety and quality of care for our pediatric patients on a national and international level,” Mueller says.
Members of the Armstrong Institute also advise on quality and safety projects within the Johns Hopkins Health System, participate in grants and contracts with other faculty members, contribute to program development, and direct or teach institute-sponsored courses.
The Armstrong Institute is led by Peter J. Pronovost, M.D., Ph.D., who also serves as Johns Hopkins Medicine’s senior vice president for patient safety and quality. Pronovost is the author of Safe Patients, Smart Hospitals: How One Doctor’s Checklist Can Help Us Change Health Care from the Inside Out. He has written more than 400 articles and chapters related to patient safety and the measurement and evaluation of safety efforts.
