St. Petersburg, Fla. – April 18, 2014 – The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has selected Dr. Brigitta Mueller, Chief Patient Safety Officer at All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine, to serve as a member of the executive committee of the Council on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (COQIPS). Dr. Mueller’s term will begin in July and extend through June 30, 2017. As a member of the executive committee, Dr. Mueller will provide thought leadership and help inform the AAP in prioritizing its efforts within the areas of quality improvement and patient safety.

Dr. Mueller joined All Children’s Hospital in September of 2013 and works closely with physicians, other clinicians and hospital leaders on a range of quality and patient safety initiatives. Since joining All Children’s Hospital, Dr. Mueller launched a daily 15-minute operational phone call for all employees to discuss safety events and safety risks and identify and solve safety and quality issues that may impact patients and employees.

“Patient safety is at the forefront of providing quality care at All Children’s Hospital,” said Dr. Mueller. “From doctors and nurses to our security and IT staff, our daily operations call allows us to better understand safety issues across the hospital so we can manage potential incidents quickly and safely.”

Before joining All Children’s Hospital, Dr. Mueller worked as the Director of the Division for Clinical, Operations, Quality and Safety for the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers. She also served as a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine, where she was a tenured Professor of Pediatrics.
