Third Collaboration Agreement Signed With Chinese Automotive Industry

Morphic Technologies' subsidiary, Cell Impact AB, has signed yet another collaboration agreement with an important customer in the Chinese automotive industry.

The agreement entails customizing the customer's fuel cell plates in order to reach optimal production efficiency and performance. The plates are designed for use in fuel cell stacks for vehicles. The agreement is the company’s third within the Chinese motor vehicle industry. There is great interest for fuel cells in China and it is expected to be the first commercial market for fuel cell driven vehicles.

Cell Impact AB currently produces test series of flow plates for fuel cells within a number of areas: fuel cells for vehicles, backup power, portable electronics and laptop computers. The purpose of the test series is to adapt the customer's flow plates in preparation for possible mass production in Cell Impact's production facilities.
A fuel cell system produces electricity when hydrogen reacts with oxygen. The system is highly efficient as compared to other energy systems and water is the only waste product the conversion produces, making the technology environmentally friendly.

Technically speaking, a fuel cell consists of two so-called flow plates that lead gas with a membrane in between. The individual cells are placed one on top of the other and form a fuel cell stack. The number and size of the cells in a system determines the amount of electricity that can be generated. For example, 600-800 cells, each with a surface of approximately ten by ten inches, are needed to power a car.
