American Home Shield introduces new maintenance services in 18 states

Memphis, Tenn., November 21, 2011 – Homeowners in 18 states who are eager to prolong the lifespan and efficiency of their major home appliances and systems can now take advantage of professional preventive maintenance plans launched this month from American Home Shield, a business unit of The ServiceMaster Company, one of the world’s largest residential and commercial service networks..

Most homeowners are aware of the basics, like regularly changing the air filters on their heating and cooling systems, checking for leaky faucets, and so on. However, as the to-do list of preventative maintenance tasks can grows longer, not everyone has the time or experience to do it all themselves.

“Professional preventive maintenance is an important investment in the well-being of your home’s major systems and appliances, not to mention the health and safety of your family,” said Matt Wendl, director of American Home Shield’s preventative maintenance services. “Along with the convenience and confidence of regularly scheduled check-ups, homeowners can also realize other benefits, too, such as reduced energy costs, improved system reliability and lower repair costs over the life of their covered items.”

The company has created a website, www.AHSpm.com, to help consumers learn more about preventative maintenance, including why it is important, what a comprehensive program should include, and more. Visitors to the site can also browse coverage options available and complete their purchase online. American Home Shield offers four plans: heating and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and major appliances, and discounts apply when more than one plan is purchased.

Once the plan is purchased, American Home Shield will work with the customer to set an appointment with a member of its contractor network, who will then perform an inspection on the item(s) selected. As part of the service agreement, technicians will carefully inspect for early signs of wear and tear, perform recommended maintenance, record the condition of equipment and systems, and if needed, work with the customer independently to repair or replace worn parts before they lead to an unexpected and costly breakdown.

“We founded the home warranty industry 40 years ago, and today serve nearly 1.4 million customers with our home protection plans,” said Dave Crawford, president and chief operating officer of American Home Shield. “We understand the needs of homeowners, and are uniquely equipped to serve their home repair and maintenance needs. We’re excited to add preventative maintenance to our product portfolio, and to offer this valuable service to homeowners.”

With a nationwide network of more than 10,000 independent contractors, the company currently offers home protection plans in 49 states, and Crawford expects to offer preventative maintenance plans in most of these markets in just a matter of months.

The 18 states included in the initial launch include Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington.
