Meeting for Medical Laser and Energy-Based Technology Professionals to be held in Boston

Wausau, WI – February 17, 2016  ASLMS 2016, the Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS), will take place March 30 – April 3, 2016 in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference is regarded as the top meeting for the exchange of information on the latest discoveries, applications and research involving medical lasers and energy based sources.

ASLMS is in its fourth decade as the world's preeminent resource for biomedical laser and other energy-based technologies research, education and clinical knowledge. 2016 marks the 36th year of the ASLMS Annual Conference and the fourth time the meeting has been held in Boston.

Attendees represent a multidisciplinary array of scientists, clinicians, nursing and allied health care professionals, students, residents, fellows-in-training, early career scientists, and industry representatives.

The conference traditionally has a strong international presence, with 20% of the attendees from countries outside the U.S.  “Our international attendees are a valuable component of the conference,” stated Robert A. Weiss, MD, ASLMS President. “The opportunity to exchange knowledge with professionals outside the U.S. is important for our organization, as there are amazing developments in our field worldwide.”

New for 2016 is a focus on emerging applications of energy-based devices in women’s health. Several sessions will highlight the use of laser and energy-based devices in the Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urogynecology, and Urology specialty fields. Topics covered include laser and energy-based treatments for pelvic floor dysfunction and vulvovaginal disorders.

“We are excited about addressing Women’s Health initiatives at the conference this year,” stated Jeremy Green, MD., ASLMS 2016 Program Co-Chair. “There is a lot of energy-based medicine in this area, not just aesthetic, but also for medical applications in Urology, Gynecology, and Imaging. We want to give these technologies a home in the ASLMS and at the meeting,”

The conference will highlight the latest clinical advances in aesthetic treatments including combining injectables with lasers and energy-based devices, skin tightening with needle-based Radiofrequency (RF) devices, and picosecond lasers for tattoo removal and other applications. New courses for 2016 include Neck Rejuvenation and Non-Invasive Body Contouring Options.

Treatments for skin conditions continue to be a core focus for the conference in 2016, with topics including advances in fractionated devices, prevention and treatment of scars, and non-invasive skin cancer diagnosis.

Demonstrating the true multidisciplinary nature of the Society, other key topic areas to be addressed include Dental Applications, Veterinary Medicine, Pediatric Applications, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Photodynamic Therapy, Photobiomodulation, Biological Imaging, and Optical Diagnostics.

In addition to the courses and sessions, the conference will feature guest speakers, exhibits, ePosters, and evening events to allow attendees the opportunity to gain further knowledge and make connections.
