LARGO, FL, USA – One of the key factors for ensuring success in high-speed book binding operations is the effectiveness of the adhesives and glues that are used in the binding process. Many types of glues and adhesives are used to bind books, magazines, catalogs and directories, ranging from reversible polyvinyl acetate glues to hot-melt and methyl cellulose adhesives.

To best determine the effectiveness and efficiency of one type of adhesive or glue versus another, HEMETEK Techno Instruments Pvt Ltd., a leading supplier of Chatillon™ force equipment based in India, has developed a Page Pull Tester specifically for testing book bindings.

The Page Pull Tester accurately determines the amount of force required to hold the pages in the spine of a book. This innovative testing solution helps establish the threshold limit of required binding strength as well as the optimal production speed that can be achieved without compromising binding strength and quality. The tester also can be used for rupture testing, which occurs when fully separated, the joined materials show evidence of rupture along the entire glued area.

At the heart of the Page Pull Tester is a Chatillon DFX Series digital force gauge that features an integral load cell that offers a measurement accuracy of better than 0.3% full scale. Among the features of the DFX Series force gauges are selectable units of measurement and display languages as well as a simple, easy-to-use operator interface. Loads are displayed in ozf, gf, lbf, kgf and N units. Since the Chatillon DFX force gauge is battery driven, the Page Pull Tester requires no additional power source. The gauge is powered by a rechargeable NIMH battery pack that allows for 70 to 100 hours of continuous use.

Chatillon force gauges are manufactured by AMETEK Sensor, Test & Calibration (STC) in Largo, Florida, USA.  AMETEK STC offers a comprehensive line of force measurement instruments and materials testing equipment for paper, plastics, wood, metals, rubber, textiles and packaging.
