Modular, Fully Integrated Photoelectrochemical Measurement System Developed Specifically for Dye Sensitized Solar Cell Research

FARNBOROUGH, UK –Solartron Analytical designed the new ModuLab DSSC optical and electrical measurement system specifically for use by researchers in developing dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) and other photoelectrochemical systems.

Solartron Analytical recognized that many of its users may be unfamiliar with the techniques for the characterization of dye sensitized solar cells. So, the design concept at the heart of its new ModuLab DSSC is to provide even novices to the field with the ability to analyze data with the click of a mouse. No prior knowledge of frequency domain technique is required. More experienced users are able to build and develop new experiment types with a powerful step sequencer.

“The ModuLab DSSC is based on Solartron’s world-leading experience in transfer function measurements. It provides an easy-to-use, high-quality measurement platform for characterizing dye sensitized solar cells,” notes Dr. Laurie Peter, professor of physical chemistry at Bath University and an expert in DSSC development and transfer function techniques for photoelectrochemical systems.

Prof. Peter served as scientific advisor in the development of the ModuLab DSSC helping to ensure that the system meets the requirements of the most-demanding photovoltaic researcher. The system incorporates many previously unavailable features and benefits, including an auto-run and auto-analyze feature that reduces 300 complex individual steps to just three mouse clicks.

Unlike other systems, the ModuLab DSSC is designed to allow all measurements to be run in sequence without user interference, greatly increasing productivity and ease of use. :

The ModuLab DSSC features a collimated and highly focused high-power light source and an optical bench equipped with a 10 MHz fast Si Photodetector with a NIST traceable sensor inside. It incorporates high-power LEDs, which offer excellent thermal stability and eliminate the need for expensive feedback control electronics.

The DSSC is more than just a photoelectrochemical measurement system. It utilizes powerful frequency response analyzer and potentiostat technology along with a suite of standardized electrochemical techniques that can further extend its application. Existing ModuLab systems can be upgraded to ModuLab DSSC with the addition of an option card and optical bench.

Solartron Analytical is a world leader in instrumentation and software for the characterization of materials and electrochemical systems and a unit of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technologies (AMT).

AMT is a division of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of $3.6 billion.  More information is available at www.solartronanalytical.com/.
