ARHAUS FURNITURE INCREASING STORE COUNT WITH NEW LEASE AGREEMENTS

Store locations in Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Connecticut scheduled for 2014 openings

CLEVELAND (August 23, 2013) – Arhaus Furniture has finalized a number of new lease agreements in Danbury, Conn., Schaumburg, Ill., Jacksonville, Fla., and Alpharetta, Ga., increasing its total store count in the fall of 2014 to 51 and 19 states.

This announcement comes on the cusp of the retailer opening three stores earlier this year; two in Texas at Centre at Old Post, 5000 Westheimer Rd., in Houston, and the Domain, 3309 Esperanza Way, in Austin, and one in Marlton, at the Promenade at Sagemore. “We’re growing with three to seven stores annually,” says Greg Teed, chief financial officer, “targeting luxury lifestyle centers located in high traffic areas and surrounded by our customer base.”

A third store in Texas is being built-to-spec now for the retailer at Dallas’s North Park Center, 8687 North Central Expressway. An opening is expected summer 2014.

  • (Danbury, CT) The space at Danbury Fair Mall, 7 Backus Ave., Danbury, Conn., is 2-stories and little more than 19,000 sq. ft. This is the first Arhaus location to open in Connecticut; the opening will precede Dallas in February next year.

  • (Schaumburg, IL) A single floor, 15,298 sq. ft. space will open in April 2014 at 5 Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Ill. Woodfield Mall will bring total store count to four in Illinois. Existing locations opened in 2007 and ’08, and include: Arhaus at The Arboretum of South Barrington, 100 West Higgins Road, 1980 N. Clybourn Avenue in Lincoln Park and at the Oak Brook Promenade at 3041 Butterfield Rd.

  • (Alpharetta, GA) In the fall of 2014, a second location will open in Georgia in Alpharetta at the Avalon on Old Milton Parkway; the Atlanta store at Buckhead’s Phipps Plaza, Peachtree Rd. NE, opened in September 2011. The Avalon store is 14,500 sq. ft. and 2-floors.

  • (Jacksonville, FL) Also in the fall of ‘14, the retailer will add a third location in Florida in Jacksonville at St. Johns Town Center, 4663 River City Drive. The Jacksonville location—2-floors, 16,000 sq. ft.—joins stores in Palm Beach Gardens at Legacy Place, 11385 Legacy Avenue, and Naples, 5023 Tamiami Trail. The Naples Arhaus was the first in Florida—a freestanding store opening in January 2003 and spanning 32,476 sq. ft. Arhaus in Palm Beach Gardens followed three years later and is half the size at 15,000 sq. ft.

Traditionally, Arhaus stores range anywhere from 13,000 to 35,000 sq. ft.

All locations follow suit with an assortment of product made by independent craftsman all over the world. Chairman and CEO John Reed says to the success of the business, “We offer the right combination of designs that Americans are comfortable living with and decorating their homes with, and we merchandise them in the kind of environment that our customers not only feel inspired by, but comfortable shopping in.”

Within weeks of opening, each is beautifully outfitted in the of the retailer’s one-of-a-kind designs and timeless classics including: sofas, sectionals and chairs wrapped in organic, leather and custom order fabrics; dining tables and chairs for indoors and out; antiques and replicas; bedroom furniture and private label bedding collections; library and office appropriate pieces; wall units and an assortment of media centers for hi-tech gadgets; and a large assortment of seasonal accessories.

Interiors boast such architectural details as skylights, a river rock fireplace, hand-painted murals, and a combination of distressed oak and stone flooring, as well as signature display elements like the Arhaus “chair wall” showcasing dining seats of every size and shape, and “accessory column” stacked top to bottom with seasonal soft goods and glasswork. “Our build-out is like no other in the industry,” says Reed. “We invest a great deal of time creating an environment that not only appeals to the shopper, but maintains our trademark look and feel.”

The Arhaus ethos is all about workmanship and has been since 1986.

Going back to the beginning

The business is 25+ years old. It all started with a single store in Cleveland’s Flats. Arhaus is named after Denmark’s port city Aarhus (pronounced ar hoos). “We drove state-by-state sourcing materials and products, tracking inventory by hand, and making personal deliveries,” says Reed. “We were committed to finding good design and going directly to the source was something that wasn’t being done.”

Today, Arhaus continues to work directly with artisans all over the world. More than 60 percent of the assortment is made in the U.S.A. currently and this number is growing according to Reed.

Making the merchandise

Details like hand-painted and distressed finishes, dovetail joinery, hand-hammered copper and eight-way hand-tied upholstery set Arhaus’ merchandise apart from other home furnishing stores and make the retailer a destination point in every market. The company’s product development team travels the world to find its unique pieces. “We buy from markets in Paris and even from village shops in Indonesia,” says Chief Creative Officer Gary Babcock.

And, artisans maintain the retailer’s original commitment: to never to use wood from endangered rainforests in the manufacture of its goods. “Whenever possible, we rely on renewable and recycled materials to make anything from a single bench, to a glass vase,” says Babcock.
