Arhaus Shelter opened its doors October 1 with posts about philanthropic activities, home décor trends and things to do in Ann Arbor

CLEVELAND (November 1, 2013) – Arhaus Furniture, known for its globally inspired assortment of handcrafted home fashions and inspirational in-store experience, launched its first-ever blog, Arhaus Shelter, http://blog.arhaus.com/welcome, October 1.

In its introductory week, posts ranged from the retailer’s fundraising efforts benefiting Global Dental Relief, http://globaldentalrelief.org, to a profile of a winner of our Club Sofa on blog Young House Love, to a list of things to do and see in Ann Arbor where Arhaus recently opened a new location, to fall color stories revolving around black and aubergine.

All blog content will remain fresh and relevant to the retailer’s business according to Kate Clegg, chief marketing officer. “Arhaus is a lifestyle brand, and while it’s aspirational, it’s also very achievable. We’ve designed Arhaus Shelter for brand enthusiasts…anyone who loves their home and lives to decorate it, appreciates great design and aspires to design, and is a world traveler or hopes to be one day.”

Ongoing, content will range from a travel journal from the retailer’s chief creative officer, Gary Babcock, to interviews with artisans who craft the retailer’s exclusive designs, to recipes for seasonal cocktails and specialty dishes and how-to on recreate some of the retailer’s signature looks or unique installations seen in stores—such as the most recent: a wall made of pages pulled from old books at its Cleveland flagship at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst!

All travel posts will come from Babcock—who’s behind the retailer’s exclusive looks and point-of-view in-store. He and the retailer’s cofounder and CEO John Reed have worked with some of the retailer’s artisans—all independent—for more than 25 years. “Expect to get acquainted with many of these talented men and women,” says Clegg.

Clegg continues, “Arhaus Shelter is about so much more than furniture; it’s also about life, inspiration and everything in between. We’ll be spotlighting amazing travel destinations, profiling hot restaurants and restaurateurs, and streaming popular playlists.”

Look for random giveaways too. The first one being the Alex (black leather) Chair, a signature Arhaus design and bestseller, on Thursday, November 7. The best comment left in the thread—limited to 1,000—will take home the prize.

Posts will be made to Arhaus Shelter on Monday and Thursday each week. Sign up to receive Arhaus Shelter in your inbox at http://bit.ly/19L9e4p.

Made of the world’s finest materials (with attention to sustainability), products are presented in dramatic lifestyle settings infused with original architectural elements imported from Parisian flea markets and Tuscan villas, hand-painted murals, Arhaus Relics, or repurposed antiques, and the freshest botanicals sourced locally in each store market. Privately owned and operated, currently there are 45+ stores in the U.S. The home furnishings retailer was founded in 1986 by father and son, Jack and John Reed, and is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. “Furnishing a better world.” This is our philosophy; it dates back to 1986 when father and son, Jack and John Reed, opened the first store location in Cleveland and vowed never to use wood from the world’s endangered rainforests in the making of an Arhaus design. Today, nearly 50 percent of our collections are made of recycled material—everything from glass to metals like copper and wood from far off lands. To ensure our values are upheld, we work with artisans who share our earth conscious values and use renewable and recycled materials when crafting pieces for our stores. Sustainably sourced timbers like teak, bamboo and mango—grown for the sole purpose of building—are used. And because we love a good story, we use reclaimed materials whenever possible, namely wood from countries tearing down dilapidated barns, shipyards and rural structures, and we refurbish one-of-a-kind antiques that we call Relics. To further minimize our impact on the environment, our stores, corporate offices and even delivery trucks operate at maximum energy efficiency and promotional pieces are printed using soy-based ink and on recycled paper.
