Association for Healthcare Foodservice Serves as Content Partner to American Hospital Association Leadership Guide

Executive Primer on Hospital Environmental Sustainability Established

Louisville, KY (November 17, 2010) – The Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF), served as a content partner to American Hospital Association (AHA) in the creation of the Executive Primer on Hospital Environmental Sustainability. The Executive Primer on Hospital Environmental Sustainability is an American Hospital Association (AHA) leadership guide for hospital and health system leaders.

“The AHA appreciates the contributions of those professionals working in healthcare/hospital food services toward improving our efforts to be more sustainable, said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “There is much we can do together to reduce the waste produced in the delivery of food and beverage to our patients, their families, and our staff.”

AHF President Denisa Cate said, “There is a direct link between healthy, sustainable food and the health of our patients, employees and community. Healthcare food and nutrition services can and should be leaders in modeling healthy food choices and sustainable operations.”

“AHF is very proud to contribute to this valuable tool promoting sustainability efforts and emphasizing that most food and nutrition services sustainable practices also drive measurable cost efficiencies and patient satisfaction improvements,” added Cate.

AHF is dedicated to serving professionals and business partners in the self-operated healthcare foodservice industry - those facilities who choose to keep their foodservice departments on staff, instead of outsourcing them to third-party contractors.

AHA will expand its guidance by introducing the Sustainability Roadmap for Hospitals. This operations guide for managers will provide tools, target objectives and best practices to help hospitals implement sustainable practices.
