Attendees can earn continuing education credit at certified presentation on A1085 spec

CHICAGO (Sept.18, 2013) — Atlas Tube, a division of JMC Steel Group, will host three special educational seminars in celebration of SteelDay, an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The seminars will be held 11 a.m.–2 p.m. on Friday, October 4, in the Monroe Room at 222 West Adams Street in Chicago.

SteelDay is the steel industry’s largest yearly educational and networking function. The event gives attendees the opportunity to interact and learn with industry professionals through free events hosted by AISC members and partners across the U.S.

Atlas Tube structural engineer Brad Fletcher will present three hollow structural sections (HSS) seminars: “Intro to HSS,” “HSS Connections” and “The New A1085 HSS Spec,” an NCSEA Diamond Review certified presentation. Each seminar will be approximately one hour and will educate attendees about the benefits of designing and building with HSS.

“SteelDay is an opportunity for industry professionals to learn more about HSS and how the materials are, and can be, used as structural elements,” Fletcher said. “This year, we’re able to offer an NCSEA Diamond Review certified presentation on the new A1085 spec, providing guests with the opportunity to earn credit for attending.”

Attendees can earn continuing education credit for attending the A1085 HSS spec seminar scheduled 1–2 p.m. The A1085 specification was introduced in April 2013, and the presentation will educate attendees on the new spec and what it means for HSS.

“The A1085 HSS spec offers unparalleled design advantages for seismic and dynamic applications,” said Fletcher. “HSS have long been a popular structural steel section choice for engineers because of their remarkable design potential and quality, and we look forward to discussing the additional benefits that A1085 HSS bring to the table.”
