Surgeon Garrick Georgeu Brings Innovative Abdominoplasty Technique to UK Clinic

Plastic Surgeon Garrick Georgeu, a new addition to Aurora’s surgical team who operates out of their Essex clinics, has just performed the company’s very first Brazilian Tummy Tuck.

The patient, a 45-year-old woman, underwent the procedure on 4th November at the Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford. The first of a series of videos showing the procedure being performed is available to view online by clicking the image below:

Mr Georgeu trained in the technique under its creator, acclaimed Plastic Surgeon Professor James Frame, while working alongside him at Harley Street Surgery.

About the Brazilian Tummy Tuck

Developed by Professor Frame in February 2008, the Brazilian Tummy Tuck quickly gained popularity among Plastic Surgeons around the world as it has a lower complication rate, with reduced risks of wound healing problems, requires less down time and yields more satisfying results than a standard tummy tuck.

In addition, while there is usually some loss of sensation above the new scar whenever a patient has a tummy tuck, this is less pronounced when the Brazilian Tummy Tuck is used.

The technique combines liposuction with a tummy tuck, and is particularly effective in cases when there is a moderate amount of excess skin but a fairly thick fat layer in the tummy. The fat is removed by liposuction and the excess skin then stretched down to tighten the area.

Because of the liposuction involved in the procedure, the skin cannot be tightened quite as much as with a traditional tummy tuck. The technique still removes the same amount of skin as the standard tummy tuck procedure – from above the umbilicus to the top of the pubic area - and the rectus abdominus muscles (the ones responsible for creating the ‘six pack’) are tightened too. The technique also reduces the amount of fat in the tummy wall.

Another significant advantage of the procedure is that it requires no drains to be inserted after surgery. This is down to the nature of the technique. With a traditional tummy tuck, small spaces are left in the abdomen after the excess tissue is removed. Fluid then has a tendency to pool in these spaces. Because the Brazilian Tummy Tuck leaves no such spaces, fluid does not accumulate in the same way, making drains unnecessary.

The procedure was trademarked by Professor Frame, and was given its name due to the ‘tunnelling’ performed during the procedure, which mimics the shape of the famous Brazilian wax.
