Leyland Trucks ‘Helping Hand’ charity donates £500 to local good cause
The Leyland Trucks Charity ‘Helping Hand’ is proud to continue its tradition of supporting local good causes by recently donating £500 to Galloway’s Society for the Blind, which supports over 7,000 blind and partially sighted people across Lancashire.
As a charity, Galloway’s strives to reach out and provide an accessible local service to enable people with a visual impairment to gain greater independence and minimise the effects of their reduced vision. It operates from four Sight Advice Centres, with support groups in various towns and villages in Lancashire.
‘Helping Hand’ is a fully registered charity run and funded by employees at Leyland Trucks and PACCAR Parts in Leyland. It was set up in 1994 to support any charitable organisation or purpose within the Preston area, and donates in excess of £20,000 each year.
Neale Handley, Chairman of the Helping Hand Charity Committee commented: “We pride ourselves on helping those most connected to the Leyland Trucks plant - be that through direct association or locality to the factory. Amongst many other regional charities, we have supported Galloway’s for many years, recognising the great work they do in the community.”
Emma Russ, Senior Fundraiser at Galloway’s said: “We’re so grateful to the Leyland Trucks ‘Helping Hand’ charity for the continued support it offers Galloway’s. Each year we have to raise over £1million so that local blind and partially sighted people have the same opportunities that the sighted world can often take for granted. It’s only with companies like Leyland Trucks that we’re able to continue the provision of such a vital service, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of their staff for their dedicated and continued support.”
