Netherlands, 4 October 2013 Axon, the broadcast infrastructure, monitoring and control specialist, received four industry awards during IBC for Neuron - the industry’s first AVB-enabled (Audio Video Bridging) video product. Launching the product for the first time during the broadcast show, Axon was handed an IABM Award for Design and Innovation and also took home a Broadcast Engineering ‘Pick Hit’ award, a TVBEurope ‘Best of IBC’ and a TV Technology ‘STAR 2013’ Award.

Individually, all of the awards recognised Neuron for its innovative design and integration of AVB technology - an open standard based on IEEE802.1. As part of Axon’s Synapse family, Neuron is a combination of hardware and software, and an Ethernet application which uses the high speeds of a modern IT-based infrastructure. The AVB-enabled video product will help change the way live production infrastructures are created, providing point-to-point connectivity and back-to-back usage for a much less costly alternative to CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing).

“To win one award is perfect, but to win four during a tradeshow is just fantastic, especially when they’ve been given by a respected industry association and three leading industry publications,” said Jan Eveleens, CEO of Axon. “We’re pleased that Neuron has been recognised as a product that will help change the way broadcasters create and manage their live production infrastructures in the future.”

Notes for editors - more on Neuron

While Neuron is built upon the open AVB standard, key additional functionality is built into the system. Full integration with Axon’s Synapse interfacing and conversion and Cortex advanced management solutions provides flexibility, modularity and control. Standalone Neuron boxes allow direct and cost-effective integration of cameras, screens, stage boxes and desktop I/O. Neuron is a fully networkable, extremely low latency infrastructure that supports varied production and real-time applications by replacing the conventional SDI router matrix and adding complete managed networking functionality.
