Luke Hines, son of the triple world, five time European and six time British Kart champion Martin Hines, has never hidden behind his famous father’s reputation, but clearly has inherited his raw talent.  A former British Touring Car Champion Hines earned international acclaim in the American Le Mans Series GTC.

Rarely can a driver boast a winning pedigree in every category he’s raced in, but Hines can, claiming numerous podiums and wins across karting, single seaters, the BTCC, GT1 and GT2.

Hines dominated the Production class of the 2003 British Touring Car Championship taking the title in his inaugural season with 18 straight podiums. In 2004 he signed with the Vauxhall Works team racing along side James Thompson and Yvan Muller taking two outright victories and 10 top six finishes before securing a factory drive for SEAT Sport, alongside Jason Plato.

Hines moved into sportscars in 2006 when he joined Team LNT driving to four race victories in a year that saw him claim second overall in the British GT championship a result that he was again to repeat in 2008 missing out on the title by just one point.

Hines got his first experience of the American Le Mans Series LMP1 in 2008 taking a fifth place on his debut at Petit Le mans, Road Atlanta before a year in FIA GT1 and a stint in the ALMS GTC with Paul Miller Racing.

Hines took a year out in 2011 following the death of his father and is now eager to get back behind the wheel.  ‘I am really looking forward to teaming up with Optimum Motorsport for the Nurburgring round of the British GT championship’ he said. ‘It’s been a while since I last raced a GT3 car but I am really up for it’

‘Luke is a very experienced and extremely talented racing driver’ said Optimum Motorsport’s Team Principle Shaun Goff. ‘A lot of work has gone on improving the car since its maiden outing at Oulton Park in April. We are optimistic about our chances this weekend and with Luke teaming up with George Murrells, who knows’
