Press Release For immediate release: 7 December 2009 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD: 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Join the race to beat breast cancer and get fit in 2010 Breast Cancer Campaign is encouraging all budding runners to lace up their trainers for a good cause next year – by taking on the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 23 May 2010 for breast cancer research. If you watched the 2009 marathon in awe and fancy setting yourself a get-fit goal for the new year, why not sign up to Campaign’s exclusive running club and run for breast cancer research? This year 31 people from across the UK wore their pink Jigsaw Runners vests with pride as they ran 26.2 miles around Scotland’s capital city and raised almost £10,000 for the charity. Events Assistant, Kelly Walton said: “Every day 125 people are sadly diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK so it’s vitally important we continue funding research into this disease. We’re thrilled so many runners took part in the Edinburgh Marathon for us earlier this year and really hope that more people will choose to run for Campaign in 2010. What better excuse to burn off your Christmas treats by signing up today and start training early January?” Breast Cancer Campaign offers great support to its running team and will be there to help runners every step of the way. To apply for a charity place, or if you have a confirmed place and would like to run and raise money for Campaign, please call the Running team on 020 7749 3700 or email runners@breastcancercampaign.org ENDS Picture caption: Runners at the Edinburgh Marathon 2009 Notes to editors • Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure • Currently it supports 115 research projects, worth over £15.6 million, in 44 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women • In the UK, nearly 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year - that’s 125 a day • Visit www.breastcancercampaign.org • Read Chief Executive Pamela Goldberg’s blog http://pamelagoldbergblog.blogspot.com/
