Press Release For immediate release: 19 April 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Local runner’s marathon effort to fund breast cancer research Budding runner Monica Coyne, originally from Hastings Hill, Sunderland, will celebrate her 36th birthday in an extra special way – by taking on the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign. The freelance sound engineer will join thousands of runners at the starting line on Sunday 25 April to support her mother, Vera, who was diagnosed with breast cancer twice. Following a mastectomy and treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, she is now doing well. Monica is also running in memory of her friend Julie Harris who sadly passed away from the disease in July 2008. Monica said: “While running is something I find enjoyable, the challenge of a marathon is very daunting but something I’m determined not only to complete but run well. I need to pay back for all the help and support we received as a family while Mum was having treatment and I want to raise as much money as possible to make sure we find the new drugs and therapies to cure this disease.” To help Monica reach her fundraising target of £2,000 please visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/monicacoyne and donate what you can. All money raised will help Campaign’s mission to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world class research into the disease throughout the UK and Ireland. If you have a place in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and would like to join Monica on Campaign’s running team, please call the Events team on 0207 749 3700 or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org. As a Campaign runner you will automatically become a member of Linford’s All Stars – a new exclusive club captained by Linford Christie, who offers supporters helpful training tips and nutritional advice.
