Press release For immediate release: Friday 6 May 2011 Press contact: Marilena Patuto, 020 7749 3720 mpatuto@breastcancercampaign.org Nottingham students nominated for top fundraising award A group of fundraisers from Nottingham University have been nominated for a charity award after raising over £50,000 for breast cancer research. Members of the Raising and Giving (RAG) group Nottingham Karnival have been nominated for Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘RAG of the Year’ award after raising the incredible amount in 2010 by collecting donations on the streets of towns and cities across the UK. Nottingham Karnival’s most successful collection day last year was the wear it pink megaraid in October, where over 100 members of the group hit the streets of London, raising almost £22,000 to help the charity continue funding vital breast cancer research. The students beat RAG collectors from Cambridge, Bangor, Nottingham, Loughborough and Manchester Universities to raise the most money in Campaign’s annual megaraid in London. Chris Bowman, the director of Nottingham Karnival, said: “We’re really excited to have been nominated for this award which acknowledges our dedication to raising money for charity. We have enjoyed every collection, including waking up in the early hours of the morning getting ready to hit the streets and sometimes collecting for 12 hours straight to make sure we have raised all we can! We are proud to raise awareness about breast cancer and help to fund the life-changing research aimed at beating the disease.” Pamela Goldberg, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Chief Executive said, “Our awards ceremony publicly recognises the amazing achievements and contributions by our fundraisers and supporters over the last 12 months towards Breast Cancer Campaign’s research. Their support is essential to helping us achieve our mission of beating the disease and I wish Nottingham Karnival and everyone else who has been nominated the best of luck.” Members of Nottingham Karnival will find out if they have been chosen at Breast Cancer Campaign’s awards ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2011 at the House of Lords.
