Press Release For immediate release: 12 April 2010 Press contact: Louise Garrahan, Media Relations Officer, Breast Cancer Campaign, DD 0207 749 3724, Email: lgarrahan@breastcancercampaign.org Sisters gear up to Pedal it Pink this Sunday Hundreds of women across Liverpool and the North West are gearing up to cycle around Sefton Park this Sunday (18 April) and Breast Cancer Campaign wants you to join the pink revolution and help put the brakes on breast cancer. Sisters Anne Croft and Debbie Clarke from Bowring Park and Woolton, Liverpool took part in the cycling challenge last year and have decided to get back in the saddle after Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks after they took part in Pedal it Pink last year. Debbie had four months of chemotherapy and 25 sessions of radiotherapy. She was fine at the beginning of her chemotherapy treatment but became quite poorly towards the end. She is doing quite well at the moment but does get very tired. Anne said: “After Debbie’s diagnosis we now feel we need to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Debbie has a brilliant positive attitude towards the disease so we’re very excited about taking part in Pedal it Pink again this year to support a cause close to our hearts.” Debbie added: “Without Anne I wouldn’t be able to do Pedal it Pink, she is my training partner in most events. Since I was diagnosed with breast cancer I have decided to keep as fit and healthy as I can. Anne doesn’t get much choice in the matter she has to do it with me.” Pedal it Pink, sponsored by Santander, has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the family 5K lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. If you would like to join Anne and Debbie, please register on the day at the event village in Sefton Park which is situated near the junction of Lark Lane and Aigburth Drive. It costs £15 for the marathon, £10 for the half marathon and £5 for the family 5k lap. Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
