Washington, DC:  Between February 1 and February 9, six students from the British School of Washington will  embark on an amazing journey to Tanzania where they will work directly with the Huramo Orphanage and the Maua School in addition to having opportunities to experience the Global Classroom, a Nord Anglia Education initiative. British School of Washington students will be joined by more than 100 students from Nord Anglia Education Schools around the world.

Nord Anglia Education, parent company of the British School of Washington and 26 other schools globally, developed the Global Classroom to provide opportunities for  students in its schools to come together, explore global issues  and provide much needed help and support to communities; creating a learning experience for everyone involved.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, both in the local community and in the Global Classroom camp.  They will have a three-day expedition to the Ngorongoro Crater; they will spend two days teaching at the Maua School and renovating the Hurumo Orphanage.  They will learn about broader issues such as the local environment and the history of slavery where relevant and finally, celebrate their diverse cultures with an International Day before heading back to Washington, DC.  When they return, students will be required to share their experiences with their school and the Nord Anglica Education Global Classroom.  Experiences like this enhances the education students receive at the British School of Washington and ensures that all of its students understand the global environment they will be facing upon graduation.  To that end, Nord Anglia happily underwrites the primary costs of these trips, and the students participate in fundraising activities to assist with the overall cost.
