Camanio Care signs agreement with Flextronics for distribution of innovative e-health hub

Camanio Care AB (publ) has signed an agreement with Flex Telecom Systems Ltd. California for an awarded innovative health-hub, the Flex IOT compute engine powered by Intel’s Health Application Platform (HAP). The agreement strengthens Camanio’s position as a distributor for services within the home care market.

The product is a communication device which enables safe communication of health data between people’s homes and medical institutions. The product connects different devices for medical measurements and sensors within the home by using Bluetooth, Wi-fi, as well as a possible access to Z-wave. From there, the product continues by sending data to medical record systems or other operational systems within the health care system.

-        This agreement corresponds perfectly with Camanio’s strategy to become a leading actor within the home care market. By integrating this product within Camanio´s Vital Smart Care platform as well as within other health care products and sensors, Camanio can take an important step towards starting to deliver data to medical institutions and thereby start attending to patients who live with chronical diseases in their homes. We now ensure safe data-gathering for homebased health care, and thereby present this to our partners. Our position is considerably strengthened by this distribution agreement, says Catharina Borgenstierna, CEO Camanio Care AB.

This unique router meets the requirements of the international standard CONTINUA[1], which regulates the communication between medical devices and eg. record keeping journals. The benefits of using a dedicated router, adapted to medical data, compared to send data from a normal mobile phone, is that data sent through mobile phones needs to be revalidated with each program update or new phone model according to medical standards. Each validation procedure is very time consuming and this can be avoided by using a dedicated health hub.

Care is moving home

Healthcare and social care is increasingly taking place in our homes, not in institutions. Many people prefer the safe walls of their homes above institutions, even during times of illness. There is also a strong economic reason to invest in homecare above institutional care. Institutional care for elderly is twice, or even trice, the cost of care for elderly at home.

People suffering from chronical diseases such as COPD (Chronical Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), congestive heart failure, diabetes etc. make an important and resource demanding group within health care. Calculations show that 70–80% of the health care production is consumed of this group, and since the number of elderly continues to grow and chronical diseases are most common among this particular group, there will be a higher demand on health care production. Remote health care, or rather home-based care, is facilitated by safely being able to perform doable measurements and follow-up at home. This reduces the need for hospital visits and unnecessary travelling, while ensuring that the patient receives the follow-up needed in the safe home-environment.

There are several studies that demonstrate the value of remote health care. A particular study from 2015 shows a reduction of 50% of patients reentering hospitals within 30 days for those using remote health care solutions. Remote health care is defined as care that takes place outside a clinic or a hospital - most commonly in the home. In 2015, five million people in the world received remote health care. As of last year, there has been an increase of an additional 51%, which according to a report by Berg Insight demonstrates a prominent rising global trend. Camanio Care is uniquely positioned to capture the value of these changes in the homecare market place.

Camanio can offer attractive product packages

Camanio intends to offer the market packages with the most common medical products. Together with this e-health hub, the packages form a very attractive solution for the hardware that is needed to support patients with chronical diseases such as overweight, COPD (Chronical Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), congestive heart failure and diabetes. There are also interesting synergies through the VITAL Smart Care platform. The product packages will be offered to primary care organizations in collaboration with partners, who already today operate as service providers within healthcare.
