Foundation to raise funds in support of creating a future without breast cancer

(October 2, 2014) – Over a hundred thousand people will gather in 65 communities across Canada on Sunday, October 5, 2014, with the singular vision of creating a future without breast cancer at the 23rdannual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

With the support of just over 7,000 volunteers, the CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led, national event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, health education and advocacy programs – both at a local and national level. The funds raised at this event help to support innovative research that includes explorations of the genetic causes of breast cancer that could lead to improved risk assessment of women, as well as tailored prevention and treatment options.

“Every year the CIBC Run for the Cure unites Canadians from coast to coast with a shared vision of a future without breast cancer.  And while we’ve made great progress over the past 23 years, we can’t stop now,” says Jane Parsons, co-CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  “Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women.  The CIBC Run for the Cure gives families, friends, and supporters the opportunity to join together in honouring their loved ones, and making a difference.”

CIBC, the title sponsor of the CIBC Run for the Cure since 1997, has seen first-hand the growth this event has undergone since it began, and knows how important every dollar raised is to the vital work being done by the Foundation.

“Breast cancer continues to touch the lives of so many Canadian families every day,” says Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President, CIBC and CIBC’s Executive Run Sponsor. “That is why the CIBC Run for the Cure – and the funds we raise together – are still so critically important. We invite everyone to run, walk, volunteer and donate on October 5 to help make a future without this disease possible.”
