Caverion provides district heating network for Europe’s biggest gold mine in Kittilä, Finland

Caverion and Agnico Eagle Finland have signed a contract on the implementation of a district heating network in the Kittilä mine area in Lapland, Finland. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 3.4 million, and it covers design and engineering, project management and project execution. The design and engineering has started and the work is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2015.

The project includes the implementation of heating and sanitation, air conditioning, electricity and automation systems as well as necessary construction works at the Suurikuusikko mine. The district heating network will utilise thermal energy generated in the processing plant.

“Our cooperation with Kittilä mine began already in 2008 when the operations in the plant started, and has included mainly maintenance work and various project deliveries. It is great to be involved in improving the energy efficiency of Europe’s biggest gold mine,” says Martti Kaikkonen, head of business operations in Northern Finland at Caverion Finland division.

Agnico Eagle belongs to Caverion’s Industry client segment.
