Unwire Signs $2.8 Million Contract

Unwire Signs $2.8 Million Contract Stockholm, September 8 - Mobile phone users in Ireland will soon be able to buy from vending machines using their mobile phones, thanks to a $2.8 million technology deal between Unwire and integrated mobile technologies specialist ItsMobile.com. Under the two-year contract, Unwire will provide 8,500 telematics servers to ItsMobile.com for use in GSM-based machine-to-machine solutions for vending machines and parking services. ItsMobile.com can also utilise CellPoint's GSM positioning services for its vehicle fleet dispatch. Unwire's wireless telematics terminals and applications provide remote management and control of machines and equipment through GSM networks. ItsMobile develops mobile commerce applications and telemetry solutions for cellular operators and mobile ISPs across Europe. Commented CEO Donal McGuinness: "Thanks to Unwire's GSM-servers, we don't have to develop our own platforms, so we can focus on what we do best - the applications. We intend to use the Unwire product suite to roll out our telemetry and positioning applications and see Unwire as a critical element for our SMS and telemetry based services." The Unwire telematics terminals will be programmed as SMS (Short Messaging Service) servers and function as a combined computer and GSM phone. They are small enough to be integrated into almost any vending machine or mechanical device. When fully functional, the user can have any purchases billed automatically to his or her mobile phone account. Said David Ericksson, President of Unwire, "This is one of many new contracts to come for Unwire and is another breakthrough for the telematics industry. Machine-to-Machine, or M2M is a market that will explode in the near future and we intend to be one of the leading companies."
