Charlotte Mecklenburg Library invites public to celebrate with special events planned for Saturday, June 4.

The Hickory Grove branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (5935 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC) is turning thirty this year. The original branch opened in 1986 in a nearby strip mall, but in the decades that followed, community growth meant a much larger library was needed. In 2010 the Hickory Grove branch was moved to its current location. To recognize three decades of service, the branch is hosting a free, public celebration on Saturday, June 4, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

While you're here, explore the new library garden, made possible by Lowe’s. Their generous gift of in-kind support, materials and volunteer time helped create an inviting new space for our community.

Festivities that day include:

  • 9:30 a.m. - Children's Program | Technology Training for Adults
  • 10:30 a.m. - Welcome and Garden Dedication
  • 11:30 a.m. - D.J. and "Selfie" Pictures (outside)
  • 1:30 p.m. - "Back to the 80s" for Teens | Adult Line Dance Class
  • 2:30 p.m. - Ice Cream and Cupcakes

Throughout the day enjoy refreshments; sign up for Summer Break: Read, Learn, Explore; test your knowledge of 80s trivia to win prizes; and shop the sale of "previously-loved" books to build your home or school library. Special thanks to Chick-fil-A, Food Lion and Harris Teeter for their donations of refreshments.

Hickory Grove Library hours: The library is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 704-416-4400.
