Myers Park Library turns 60

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library invites public to celebrate with special events planned for Saturday, November 12, 2016

The Myers Park branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (1361 Queens Road, Charlotte) is turning sixty this year. Much in the neighborhood has changed since the branch opened in this location, but the library still remains a landmark. It is also a convenient branch for the many people who live and work in the tree-canopied neighborhood of Myers Park.

“We’re excited about our upcoming 60th anniversary celebration,” said branch manager Trilby Meeks. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation to the generations of customers who have visited this little brick library at the intersection of Providence and Queens.”

To mark the anniversary, the branch is hosting a free, public celebration on Saturday, November 12, 2016. (Note that all libraries will be closed on Friday, November 11, for Veteran’s Day.)

Festivities on November 12 include:

  • Noon -12:15 pm: “Tell a Joke Corner.” Hear a joke, share a joke. (For kids of all ages!)
  • 1:00 pm: “The Balloon Lady” offers children award-winning balloon creation, music, storytelling, and engaging magic tricks.
  • 2:00 pm: “A Little Birthday Music." Pianist Ethan Uslan will serenade guests with classical music, including a medley of happy birthday.

Do you know the history of your neighborhood library? Throughout the day visitors can “Meet the Myers Park History Challenge” with a fun scavenger hunt that encourages exploration of Myers Park history.

In the week leading up to the public celebration, children’s specialists at Myers Park will also be conducting birthday-themed storytimes during regular storytime hours, as well as a birthday scavenger hunt for children. Visit for a complete listing of branch programs or call 704-416-5800.
