TORONTO (February 19, 2014) Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) today received a $25,000 donation from DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. to support a new solar energy project in Ghana.

“It is humbling to witness the generosity of DUCA members, who are collectively committing to support innovative projects in the developing world,” said Mark Lukowski, CEO of Christian Children’s Fund of Canada. “CCFC will work together with DUCA to address the growing need for efficient and reliable renewable energy.”

The DUCA-CCFC project will furnish solar lighting systems to 100 households in a northern Ghana village as well as a solar powered borehole well to provide clean water for domestic and agricultural sectors serving, on average, 750 beneficiaries.

The project was chosen through online voting by DUCA Members, CCFC and DUCA staff and the general public. They were asked to consider four (4) alternative energy projects in the developing world. For the community in Ghana, this project provides sustainability, economic growth, and community development.

“The dedication and collaborative effort made by staff, members, and the community is inspiring,” said Richard Senechal, CEO and President of DUCA.  “This project is a reflection of our founding principles - it is truly about our local community coming together to help provide opportunities and improved living conditions for a community in need half-way across the globe.”

Ghana Program Manager, Evans Sinkari, said “we hope the partnership will build the capacity of CCFC and local NGOs to be able to deliver sustainable development to enhance the well-being of children.”

DUCA recently signed an agreement to provide CCFC with a donation of $100,000 over the next four (4) years. The funding will support innovative projects in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
