Sacramento Event Targets Traffic Deaths from Drugs and Alcohol
Church of Scientology of Sacramento introduces Sacramento religious leaders to the Truth About Drugs education program to help decrease fatalities and serious traffic accidents caused by drug abuse.
At an International Faith Based Coalition event at the California State Capitol April 20, 2013, Mike Klagenberg of the Church of Scientology Sacramento offered to make the Truth About Drugs program available free of charge to religious leaders, educators and community groups.
The International Faith Based Coalition (IFBC) called on religious leaders to speak out at a rally held to draw attention to the deadly consequences of driving under the influence of cannabis, alcohol and other drugs.
Coalition members representing Baptist, Muslim, Apostolic, Christian and Scientology congregations responded to the call.
More than half of U.S. drivers killed in car accidents had alcohol or drugs in their system at the time of the crash, according to a study published in January 2013. According to the National Highway Traffic safety Administration, more than 10,000 alcohol-related traffic fatalities occurred in 2010. And drug-related traffic deaths are on the rise.
The International Faith Based Coalition is an interfaith organization of congregations that value and celebrate diversity and stand united against drug abuse. Coalition member Mike Klagenberg, President of the Church of Scientology of Sacramento stressed drug prevention as the most logical, humane and cost-effective approach to addressing drug abuse.
“Every year, billions of taxpayer dollars are spent on law enforcement, interdiction and treatment,” says Klagenberg. “And this doesn’t even take into account the enormous cost in lives ruined and lost because of drug abuse. Decreasing demand is the best solution.”
Klagenberg is making the Truth About Drugs program available free of charge to religious leaders, educators and community groups. The program consists of booklets, public service announcements and a feature-length documentary, The Truth About Drugs—Real People, Real Stories. He extended an invitation to anyone wishing to help their friends and family avoid the tragedy of addiction to visit the Public Information Center of the Church of Scientology of Sacramento, which contains extensive information about the program and its use around the world to help people make informed decisions to live drug-free lives.
The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs. Drawing on 25 years of experience in drug prevention, the program has solved the problem of effectively communicating to teens and young adults the reality of drug abuse, individually and through mass communication.
