Crisis: Medical Marijuana, Inc. Featured in Documentary Film About Historic Cannabis Access by Families and Children in Mexico
“Crisis,” Produced by CMW Media, Portrays the Legal Struggle of Parents in Mexico Who Are Leading the Battle for Access to Cannabis for Health as a Constitutional Right
San Diego, CA – May 13, 2016 – Medical Marijuana, Inc. (OTC: MJNA) is pleased to announce to shareholders and the public that the Company and its subsidiaries are featured in a documentary “Crisis” premiering in Mexico next week.
Award-winning producer Jordan Guzzardo and photojournalist Christian Rodas of CMW Media accompanied Mexican father Abelardo Maldonado on Feb. 2 to COFEPRIS in Mexico City, to document the historic day as Maldonado picked up the first-ever federal import permit issued for a cannabis product. On that day, Maldonado picked up his COFEPRIS import permit for Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil product Real Scientific Hemp Oil-X™ (RSHO-X™), for his 11-year-old daughter Alina.
The family of Grace Elizalde, who’s diagnosed with Lennox Gestalt Syndrome, created the legal precedent for Alina to import RSHO-X™. The Elizalde family was the first in Mexico to sue the federal government and win the right to import CBD hemp oil. Grace was subjected to several different treatment protocols – 19 in all – with no lasting success.
Raul Elizalde and his wife Mayela Elizalde Benevides have since created a non-profit organization, www.PorGrace.org.mx, to assist other families in Mexico with access to cannabis for health conditions. Hundreds of families from across the country have joined forces to access cannabis through PorGrace.org.
While it didn’t legalize marijuana, a November 2015 Mexico Supreme Court ruling paved the way for future rulings that could lead to full-scale marijuana legalization. After the ruling, Mexico held a series of regional town hall discussions across the country beginning in January and concluding in April, 2016. CMW Media’s footage in “Crisis” includes commentary from some of the families who attended the forums. Many share their heart-wrenching accounts of attempts to access cannabis for their children’s health conditions.
As the debates took place across the country, on Feb. 2 the Health Department of Mexico, COFEPRIS, issued the country’s first-ever government permits to import RSHO-X™, to Maldonado’s daughter Alina and also to 5-year-old Maria Paula. These were the first import permits in Mexico’s history allowing importation of non-psychoactive cannabis oil.
All of these historic events are included in the documentary “Crisis” that is being released for distribution at a live press conference held in Mexico City on Monday, May 16. The producers of “Crisis” will be available for comment during the press conference. For information on CMW Media, visit the company’s website at www.cmwmedia.com.
