Coloreel’s unique and revolutionary thread colouring technology has already made huge impression on the textile industry.
Now the Swedish innovation company has got a multi-million grant from the EU Framework program for research an innovation, Horizon 2020.

“With this funding and the potent support of the European Commission we will be able to further strengthen our IP portfolio and secure our mission to provide the textile market with groundbreaking thread colouring solutions”, says Joakim Staberg, founder of Coloreel and inventor of the technology.

Thousands of small and medium size companies apply each year for grants from Horizon 2020. As a part of this program, the European Commission is hand-picking potentially disruptive business to invest and support.

For the fourth and last cut-off of the program in 2016, the commission received 1,376 project proposals from 34 countries. Only 51 companies were chosen and granted funding, Coloreel being one of them. The grant for Coloreel was the second largest of the 51 grants.

“We are very happy and grateful to receive this significant grant”, says Joakim Staberg.

Coloreel’s unique and patented technology enables high-quality instant colouring of textile thread on demand. This means that the users always have exactly the right colour of thread available when they need it. The first product to be launched based on this technology is a ground-breaking thread colouring attachment for embroidery machines.

Coloreel is a stand-alone unit that can easily be used with practically any embroidery machine without any modifications. By instantly coloring an Coloreel base thread during embroidery production, Coloreele enables complete freedom to create unique embroideries without any limitations in the use of colors. Color changes on the thread can be made rapidly from one solid colour to another or gradually, to make smooth transitions or any colouring effects that you can imagine.

The Coloreel units will be available to the market during next year. Until then a few exclusive partner customers will get the opportunity to design and order unique Coloreel embroideries for their limited-edition apparel or other products, thru Coloreel’s embroidery production facilities.

During 2016, Coloreel has only been demonstrated in exclusive sessions. In February this year, Coloreel was for the first time ever shown in public at Avantex in Paris, a trade fair dedicated to high technology for the fashion industry. The feedback was very positive.
