Fans of Les Stroud will howl for his survival-centric books, DVDs and even music

Huntsville, Ontario – November 19, 2014 – Surviving the holidays takes on new meaning with these gifts from The Discovery Channel’s Survivorman, Les Stroud. The wilderness expert, who wowed an international audience with his survival skills for five seasons of Survivorman, can extract himself from just about any dire situation: he’s survived in a stranded car, kept warm in the frigid cold, avoided bear attacks and more, logging a half-million miles trekking across the world in the process.

This holiday season, Stroud’s books and DVDs can help entertain you and your loved ones, while also preparing you mentally and physically for any worst-case scenario that might come your way. His CDs offer the perfect soundtrack for planning your next wilderness adventure.

Consider the following DVD, books and CDs for the survival-minded people in your tribe:

Survivorman Season 5 on Blu-ray: With limited food, no water or gear and no camera crew, Stroud returns to the wilderness, relying on only his smarts and determination to survive. This two-disc set follows him on captivating adventures in the fifth season of Survivorman, as he travels to isolated parts of Grenada and Tierra del Fuego.

Beyond Survivorman: Stroud has traveled the world, living among the world’s most remote indigenous tribes and facing challenging physical—and mental—conditions alongside them. In each location, he sought to take away tips from the experts who have been battling the elements with limited resources for generations. He shares those in this book, after spending time among the Sea Gypsies in Malaysia, the San Bushman in Africa and others. Laura Bombier documented the journeys through her photos.

Survive! Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere—Alive: This New York Times best-selling tactical guide shares Stroud’s experiences as a way to instruct readers on how to get out of even the most extreme and threatening situations, alive. Instructions are included on how to make a shelter, survival kit, how to find safe water, how to trap small animals and more. (Survive! The Ultimate Edition comes with a bonus DVD).

Will to Survive: Dispatches from the Edge of Survival: Despite his extensive toolkit of skills and training, even Survivorman, himself, has been pinned between a proverbial rock and hard place. Stroud’s Will to Survive—a New York Times best sellerexamines those times, analyzing what went wrong and why, while providing a useful guide to help others in similar situations, in this inspiring book.

Les Stroud’s music: In addition to his success as Survivorman, Les Stroud is also a singer-song writer. In fact, he launched his career in the music video industry before he debuted on television. Stroud has produced three albums and a single—Les Stroud: Les Stroud; Les Stroud and The Pikes: Long Walk Home; Les Stroud: I am Canadian (single); Les Stroud and The Campfire Kings: Wonderful Things—and is working on two more albums.

Stroud’s career in survival evolved following a year-long expedition to the remote Wabakimi area in Ontario. He lived off the land, relying on primitive bush skills to cook food and build shelter, swearing off modern conveniences like metals, plastic, matches and nylon tents.  While in the bush, he recorded his experiences, and that became the basis for his documentary, Snowshoes and Solitude

After the success of his documentary, Stroud pitched a survival show to The Discovery Channel. He went on to produce two segments of that show, called Stranded, which led to the development of Survivorman series, which he wrote, produced, directed and filmed, all on his own. In 2004, the first episode of Survivorman aired. The show continued for five seasons, and is one of the highest rated shows in the history of OLN Canada, the Science Channel US and Discovery Channel US, as well as the highest rated repeat show on the Discovery Channel. For his work on Survivorman, Stroud has been nominated for 12 Canadian Screen Awards (formerly the Gemini’s).
