World's Largest Gathering of Europe Experts Focus on Continent in Crisis
20th International Conference of Europeanists to be Held in Amsterdam in June
2013
NEW YORK, 2013-01-03 11:00 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2013
(GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Council for European Studies (CES) has announced that
its upcoming 20th International Conference of Europeanists, to be held at the
University of Amsterdam in June 2013, will be attended by over 1200 experts on
European policy, economics, and culture. Organized under the title "Crisis and
Contingency: States of (In)Stability," it will feature presentations and
discussions on a wide range of issues, including welfare state dynamics,
monetary policies, gender and sexual politics, cultural and religious
diversity, internal and external migration, environmental issues, etc.
As the largest gathering of Europeanists, the International Conference of
Europeanists serves a unique and important role for those specializing on
European policy, economics, and culture. Held regularly since 1979, the
conference is highly competitive and has long been the premier gathering for
specialists on European cultural and policy issues. It is organized by the
Council for European Studies (CES), which is the leading international
organization for the study of Europe, and attracts an extraordinary roster of
attendees from many of the world's most noted research and policy institutions.
As in the past, the selection process for the 2013 conference was highly
competitive and rigorous. Led by co-chairs Peter Gourevitch (University of
California, San Diego) and Sébastien Chauvin (University of Amsterdam), the
Conference Program Committee reviewed more than 1,400 session and paper
proposals in order to compose the program. Of this total, just 60% of proposals
were accepted, demonstrating once again that the CES conference is not only the
most prestigious, but also the most competitive gathering of its kind in the
world.

"Program Preview," posted on the Council's website.
The 20th International Conference of Europeanists is scheduled to take place in
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 25-27, 2013. For more details, visit the
