88% of UK Households Now Purchasing CFL Low-Energy Light Bulbs
Great news for all those in the energy-saving sector – according to a Europe-wide survey, the UK is now one of the top five European countries taking steps to improve energy efficiency with CFL and LED light bulbs!
The survey show that 88% of UK households are now regularly purchasing CFL light bulbs in place of their older halogen lamps, and many participants in the survey suggested their main reason for doing so is because of the excellent money-saving potential. A third of UK consumers also admit to investing in LED light bulbs, which can result in even higher savings.
The statistics make for great reading, and leading lighting provider BLT Direct is thrilled that energy-saving lighting solutions are now seen as commonplace in the UK. In recent years, lighting providers and those keen on energy-saving had faced an uphill battle convincing the general public that low-energy light bulbs were the way forward – but now it seems the battle has been won, and the UK has woken up to the benefits of energy-saving lighting solutions.
Steven Ellwood, Managing Director of BLT Direct, says, “The new survey is fantastic news for the energy-saving industry in the UK – and great news for all of the consumers who are going to notice a significant fall in their energy bills! At BLT Direct we’re strong proponents of energy-saving solutions, and our vast range of CFLs and LEDs gives customers plenty to think about when choosing the right option for them. Hopefully in the coming years, as halogens are phased out entirely, we’ll see energy-saving options become the default choice for all homes and businesses in the country.”
Switching to energy-saving solutions is in the best interests of all consumers hoping to trim their bills and enjoy more money in their pockets. Statistics from the Energy Saving Trust have shown that UK households can save as much as £1.4bn on electricity bills just by switching to energy-saving light bulbs – that’s a saving of £50 per year for every household in the UK!
And, of course, the environmental benefits are multitudinous. Research has found that households using halogen or incandescent bulbs could save 4.6m tonnes of carbon dioxide by making the switch – that’s enough to fill Wembley Stadium hundreds of times over!
Mr Ellwood adds, “There really are no downsides to switching to energy-saving light bulbs. With a longer lifespan and lower energy consumption, consumers are much better-off financially. The standard of light output remains incredibly high, so those installing the bulbs can enjoy the same warm illumination they’ve grown accustomed to. And not forgetting the environmental benefits – we’d urge all consumers to make 2015 the year they switch to LEDs and CFLs.”
