Bolton-Based Handrail Creations Shortlisted For Business Newcomer of the Year Award

The bespoke handrail craftsmen, Handrail Creations have been nominated for a prestigious business award in the North West. The family owned business, which has also just been appointed to make and install handrails in the Houses of Parliament, has been shortlisted in the Newcomer category of the 2015 North West Business Masters Awards.

The hotly contested Newcomer category looks for the best new business initiative in the region in the last three years. Handrail Creations is up against a number of other local firms for the title, including a digital agency specialising in law firms, a nutritionist and a pre-revenue business developing an electricity storage system.

The North West Business Masters Award nominees include some of the region’s leading entrepreneurs, innovators, creators, exporters and philanthropists. All are judged to have made an outstanding contribution to business in the North West over the last 12 months. Finalists were shortlisted by a panel of independent judges with winners to be announced at a black tie dinner in Manchester on 12 March.

Handrail Creation co-founder Kenny MacFarlane said, “We are genuinely thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Newcomer of the Year title in the North West Business Masters Awards. There were a record number of entries this year so it’s an honour to be a finalist. There are some truly innovative businesses shortlisted in the Newcomer category so we are very much looking forwards to attending the awards dinner next month in Manchester. We have far exceeded our expectations in our first year of trading.”

Handrail Creations was shortlisted for the Newcomer category thanks to a number of groundbreaking achievements. Handrail Creations have developed their own methods of 3D modelling and programming parts, which means they can produce all parts in the factory and pre-assemble each to make sure that there is no cutting and carving work required on site. It can also guarantee accuracy through its use of new digital measuring equipment, surveying staircases, which results in handrails which fit perfectly, every time.

Mr MacFarlane added, “We have the resources in place after just 12 months that we had hoped to have by year three. Most importantly, we are winning repeat business from some of the most prestigious contractors, stair builders, joiners and architects in the country. We have won large contracts in universities and office blocks for hundreds of metres of handrail at a time and we have worked in some of the most luxurious properties in Europe, including the 7 floor spiral staircase at a £120m property in Queen Anne’s Gate in London.”

Handrail Creations occupies a state of the art, large factory in Bolton where each bespoke timber handrail is designed and produced by a thriving team of designers, engineers and craftsmen.

Handrail Creations’ handrails are constructed using various hardwoods. The firm will become FSC certified next month, opening up the opportunity to bid for larger projects and reaffirming its commitment to the environment.
