Former Birmingham hustler launches fashion label after 'not guilty' verdict

A former hustler from Birmingham has turned his life around and launched fashion label 100mph after receiving a 'not guilty' verdict. The casual clothing, with an understated and cool vibe, will appeal to fashion conscious millennials that are looking for laidback, Insta-worthy appeal.

Company director Matthew Walters, who grew up in Handsworth, Birmingham, hustled the streets and was affiliated with the notorious Burger Bar Boys gang before turning his hand to legal business. Walters' attitude to life and business changed after having many near misses with death, including being kidnapped twice, and facing 10 years in prison for allegedly importing cocaine.

The 100mph brand was born from Walters' passion and drive that kept him going throughout his 16-month bail period. To reflect this 100mph will officially launch online on 31 July 2016, the anniversary of Walters' 'not guilty' verdict. He hopes that his own success will encourage other street hustlers to go legal and use their transferable skills to gain lawful employment or set up their own business.

Matthew Walters, director of 100mph Online, said, “I want my story and the 100mph brand to inspire others to make the most of the skills they have and go legal. It took a lot of close calls for me to have my lightbulb moment but I hope to encourage other to get theirs before they face the challenges I did.

"Focussing on my passions and the 100mph brand gave me strength to get through the day during a difficult time. Turning the business into a success and launching the website is a milestone that I will continue to build on in the future."

The 100mph brand has an urban style and products can be pre-ordered on the website now, with orders being fulfilled on the launch date. The first 100mph collection features t-shirts, polos, sweaters and hoodies that are suitable for both men and women. The grey colour palette of the range makes it perfect for pulling together an effortless look.
