Freesat Adds Three Channels To Line-Up

Freesat has continued its rapid expansion in the world of digital TV by adding three new channels to its line-up; Sky News, Pick TV and Challenge TV. All have now been added to the channel list for viewers to enjoy in 2013 and beyond. The new additions are the next step in Freesat’s meteoric rise to the top of everyone’s television wish lists, with their subscription-free service increasing in popularity and expanding in capability.
The three channels are owned by Sky TV, and were originally available on a terrestrial Freeview platform, but until now, Freesat viewers were not able to access them. Freesat’s Managing Director, Emma Scott, said that they are ‘delighted’ that Sky News is joining Freesat, and commented on the extensive array of news options that the free service now offers. Eleven news channels were originally available on Freesat, with highlights including CNN and BBC News 24, but with the UK’s first 24 hour news channel joining the ranks, Freesat viewers have a formidable and wide-ranging selection of news outlets to choose from.
Pick TV is a relatively new channel which broadcasts shows which have finished on the Sky 1 service, along with repeats of popular shows such as Airline, It’s Me Or The Dog and Road Wars. Highlights of the service since its launch in 2010 have included seasons three and four of the hit American drama Prison Break, the recent cult hit Pineapple Dance Studios and the Sky 1 sports panel show, A League Of Their Own. With Sky 1 currently a subscription-only service not available on Freesat, it is a huge step for viewers to be able to watch these Sky 1 shows for free.
Challenge TV is also a popular channel which mainly broadcasts old re-runs of classic quiz shows from years gone by. Old episodes of Gladiators, Bullseye, The Price Is Right and Family Fortunes take up much of the programming, with many worldwide poker challenges and tournaments broadcast right into the early hours of the morning. There are also some more recent hits occasionally available on the channel, with the ever-popular Deal or No Deal, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Eggheads and Don’t Forget The Lyrics.
Added to the current list of Freesat channels which include CBS Drama, More 4, True Movies and Showcase TV, the service is quickly becoming one of the premier ways to receive entertainment channels without a monthly subscription. More channels are predicted to be added in the future, making Freesat one of the most comprehensive and best value television packages around.
