Gift and Befriend Helps Make 2015 A Year of Giving

An altruistic enterprise is advocating for global generosity with the launch of a new website called Gift and Befriend . Driven by a desire to help those in need, the site uses the power of the internet to connect ordinary members of the public with those in need.  In 2015 Gift and Befriend is calling on internet users all over the world to get involved and make 2015 a year that matters.

Rather than facilitate monetary donations beneficiaries are asked to set up profiles on the new website, share their stories and create Amazon Wish Lists associated with their Gift and Befriend profile. Benefactors are then invited to browse profiles, get to know members and choose to purchase wish list items according to personal budgets or preferences. Profiles can be openly browsed which gives gift givers the complete freedom to decide exactly who they want to spend charitable donations on. All gifts are purchased anonymously and delivered by Amazon to addresses across the globe. Neither the donor or Gift and Befriend ever handle the goods which fosters complete security and peace of mind. For those unfortunate enough not to have an address, Amazon can deliver to a charity office, church or school alternatively. 

The concept was borne from the realisation that despite social and economic disadvantages many underprivileged citizens still have access to the internet. Whether via a smartphone, PC, library or internet café, the ability to get online gives people a chance to tell their own stories without relying on a charity to do it for them. It was this understanding that inspired Gift and Befriend founders to build a website that utilises the global reach of the internet to help disadvantaged people engage with better off people. From citizens of poverty struck developing countries to homeless people of the first world, Gift and Befriend extends its hand to recipients across the globe.

Mark Young, Development Manager of Gift and Befriend said, “The joy of giving shouldn’t discriminate on geographic location, which is why we’ve made Gift and Befriend open to all global citizens. Whether it’s a ten year old African child in need of school supplies or a homeless person in London asking for a new pair of boots to make it through a freezing winter, Gift and Befriend is here to help. We’d love to hear from individuals or organisations working with the homeless or other people in need so we can support the work they are already doing.”

The website has been in development for six months, with engineers tirelessly working on perfecting a key design element that seamlessly connects profiles to custom built Amazon Wish Lists. This feature plays an integral role in allowing people in need to share their stories while simultaneously informing donors of exactly what they need.

Unlike so many other charitable enterprises 100% of donations go directly to the beneficiary. The site is free to join and charges zero transaction fees to ensure that every penny is used to make a difference.

After receiving a generous donation beneficiaries are encouraged to upload photos and videos of their gifts as well as thank donators in their future blog posts.  This lets benefactors see first-hand how their donations are changing the lives of those in need.

As well as its head office in Ireland the privately owned company also operates business development centres in London and New York. Using its widespread global presence Gift and Befriend is actively engaging with a wide variety of non-profit organisations in order to spread the word about the new website.
