Industry leaders pleased at increase in click and collect sites

Pallet Truck Shop, one of the country’s leading providers of pallet trucks and other manual handling equipment to a range of sectors, has applauded the news that a supermarket giant has announced it will increase the number of click and collect sites over the next 12 months.

Earlier this week, Sainsbury’s, one of the Big Four supermarkets, announced that it will double the number of click-and-collect grocery sites in its store car parks over the next 12 months, due to an increase in online orders. Initially rolled out to 100 sites, the service, which offers customers a ‘drive-thru’ option, will take pride of place in its stores’ carparks up and down the country.

Phil Chesworth from Pallet Truck Shop said, “This continued development and investment is excellent news for the online retail industry, as well as the supermarket sector as a whole. It’s an extremely exciting time for online retail at the moment, with big players upping their game in order to compete. Click-and-collect has proven to be a wonderful addition to the retail market, bridging the gap between online shopping and physically visiting a store. With online sales having been increasing rapidly over the last couple of years, this is a wise move for the supermarket, who will have to make significant changes over the next 12 months to stand a chance against the other supermarkets.”

Taking the total number of click-and-collect sites to 200, the move comes just weeks after it was revealed that UK’s second biggest supermarket will take over Argos, building its multi-channel offer. Aiming to create a retailer bigger than rivals Amazon UK, the supermarket giant agreed a £1.4 billion deal to create a “multi-product, multi-channel” business with around 2,000 stores, concessions and click-and-collect outlets.
