James Haskell Signs Agreement with Gardners following Critical Acclaim for First Book
England and Wasps rugby star, James Haskell has signed a distribution deal with Gardners following critical acclaim for his first book, Introduction to Becoming and Remaining RugbyFit. Gardners is the UK’s largest book wholesaler and supply books to a number of British retailers including Waterstone's, Tesco.com Books and WHSmith.
Reaction to Introduction to Becoming and Remaining RugbyFit has been overwhelming, with a number of renowned rugby journalists, bloggers and rugby pundits praising the comprehensive, no-nonsense and honest approach. Haskell’s first foray into publishing draws on his personal journey through the highest echelons of the professional game, working with some of the very best and most highly regarded coaches of his generation. The flanker and Wasp’s captain shares insight and knowledge picked up through 70s caps for his country and stints in all four top domestic rugby leagues in the world.
This distillation and critical path analysis of all he has learnt, observed, tried and tested is what makes the book so valuable and unique – a fact that has led to plaudits such as Introduction to Becoming and Remaining RugbyFit being voted “Rugby World’s Book of the Month for August”.
Haskell said, “The response to the book has been incredible and I’m delighted to be working alongside Gardners – a name synonymous with books and with a flawless track record both domestically and internationally.”
Gardners has been a leading wholesale distributor of English language physical and digital products and content for 25 years. Working with the book trade, it is a key link in the wholesale book supply chain with over 400,000 books in stock.
Gardners Commercial Director, Bob Jackson said, ““Gardners are delighted to be supporting distributing this important book from an author who has such a well proven experience of the subject and it will no doubt find a place on the bookshelf of anyone aspiring to improve their sports fitness.”
Introduction to Becoming and Remaining RugbyFit is fully illustrated with step-by-step guidance from Haskell himself. It is must have ammunition for any player – not just in rugby but in sport at any level - wanting to take their on-field performance to the next level.
The book has particularly resonated with young players and their parents thanks in part to Haskell’s uncompromising views about youngsters getting into rugby and how they must eschew all forms of weights and supplements as well as dismissing the notion that size is everything. The book serves as a blueprint for preparing, training and playing safely at all levels, as well as offering training, fitness and nutrition advice suitable for gym goers and athletes at all levels.
