Local Business Woman Defeats Cancer and launches Internet Safety business.

After beating Cancer, local mum and entrepreneur goes on to support young cancer sufferers.

When business woman “Lola Ricketts” from Solihull, West Midlands was diagnosed with ovarian cancer; it kick-started a journey of discovery, which led her true vocation - giving back.

Whilst spending time receiving Chemotherapy at the Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital Young Persons Unit (a Teenage Cancer Trust” specialised facility) Lola witnessed first hand the divide between the internet savvy and those who had little or no knowledge of the internet and digital technology- generally elderly people.

As the government continues with its “Transformation Programme” making services such as Home Office, DWP, HMRC and BIS/Land Registry” digital by default”, digital exclusion is a growing issue faced by many older people and those who have not kept up with “modern technology” and “life online”.

Once returning to full health in 2014, Lola set about creating her company “Tech Smart Trainingformerly “Fox Learning” from her home in Solihull, where she resides with her partner and three children.

Tech Smart Training serves the local community in and around Solihull, providing 121 IT lessons & remote support to its customers of all ages and abilities in their own homes, they also specialise in lessons for older people within the community in care and nursing homes, focusing on helping them “get to grips” with the basics such as: emails, online shopping and even managing their health online. There is also a popular remote IT support service specifically for those who want ongoing help when they need it.

After successfully securing private investment Tech Smart Training evolved to encompass all forms of digital exclusion; providing IT Training & Support to people of all ages and abilities throughout the West Midlands. Tech smart Training also specialises in Internet safety for younger learners and support sessions for those with Dementia.

In addition to supporting her local community, Lola has been able to fulfill her dream of giving back to “Teenage Cancer Trust”. Next year the Charity has been chosen to receive a percentage of annual profits.

Lola said “Tech Smart Training’s” long term plans include; creating partnership with local organisations to provide our services in NHS hospitals to patients receiving treatment, utilising that time to help them build their confidence and awareness of the potential dangers online whilst enjoying new experiences and learning new skills.  I am exceptionally proud to now be in a position to give back to those that helped me at The Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Young Persons unit” and ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’.
