Online art gallery Art2Arts welcomes news of Google Art Camera for digital democratisation of the art world

As over 1,000 pieces of art from worldwide galleries and museums are uploaded online, leading online art gallery Art2Arts welcomes the launch of the Google Art Camera as an innovative enabler towards democratisation of the art world. By scanning the paintings in high resolution and storing them in a digital archive, Google are granting free access to magnificent pieces of artwork, available online to anyone who wants to view them.

Google’s new Art Camera invention was built to assist the Google Art Project, formed in 2011. Here Google aim to capture the great art works of the world and store them in a virtual art gallery online. Amongst the works captured are those of Monet, Van Gogh and other critically acclaimed names. The Google Art Camera allows this project to accelerate considerably, reducing the time needed to capture each painting from multiple hours to under 60 minutes.

Michelle Gibbs, director of Art2Arts commented, “The Google Art project is an innovation in the world of art, breaking down boundaries of accessibility. At Art2Arts we are excited by the news of the new Google Art Camera and we wish the company their every success in their quest towards making great art available for all. We too feel that there should be no limitations on who can and cannot enjoy beautiful artwork, and our digital art gallery platform allows us to act on this. Without worry of intimidation, unrealistic price points or physical access to traditional galleries, heading online and using a digital means enables anyone, anywhere to buy and enjoy original art.”

Even without flying around the world to famous art galleries, using the Google Art Project people can zoom in and explore great works from collections in London, Australia, Brazil and more. As well as allowing new audiences to appreciate art like never before, the Google Art Project looks set to digitally preserve the scanned paintings to be enjoyed for centuries to come, as the physical pieces grow more delicate over time.
