Derby County Football Club say the proportion of matchday tickets sold online has risen dramatically since the re-launch of its ticketing website WeAreDerby.com.

Developed by South Normanton based e-commerce website and online marketing specialists Purpose Media, the proportion of online sales for Derby’s opening game of the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship season against Rotherham United on Saturday 9th August 2014 have increased from an average of 11% to 45% and are likely to increase even further as tickets continue to be sold ahead of the game.

The project to overhaul the WeAreDerby.com website was commissioned by Brandon Furse, who is Derby County’s Head of Ticketing, Analytics and Technology. The aim was to improve the overall look and feel of the website and simplify the journey for supporters from their arrival right the way through to paying for their tickets.

Originally launched over four years ago as a ticketing website, other features had been bolted on and the overall appearance had become quite messy and confusing. The new website places greater emphasis on the online ticket purchase options, allows seat selection and improves the speed and efficiency of buying tickets.

Furse explained: “I thought I had some fairly fixed views on what I wanted and how I thought our website visitors would want to navigate through the web content, but these were based on conjecture and guess work. Using their analytical software, Purpose Media were able to actually show us how visitors behaved as they browsed through the old website and we have been able to use this information to build the new website design and layout. The increase in sales proves their methodology has delivered the desired result and feedback so far is very positive.”

Purpose Media Managing Director Matt Wheatcroft added: “We were delighted when we got the call from Derby County to discuss the possibility of producing their new e-commerce ticketing website. Our approach has always been to focus on delivering more sales on line. Understanding the clients’ objectives and their customer behaviour are key drivers, and we always work hard, based on these statistics, to ensure they get the required return on investment from their website project.”
