RMR Recruitment represents RGN locums in the UK, offering short-term relief to Scottish staffing problems

The UK’s top locum recruitment agency, RMR Recruitment, is reaching out to hospitals in Scotland offering qualified RGN locums as an immediate, short-term solution to aid the staffing problems in the area. As a ‘retirement time bomb’ looms within the nursing specialism, adding to the increasing recruitment difficulties faced by trusts in Scotland, RMR Recruitment maintain a portfolio of highly trained and versatile RGN locum professionals to ensure that staffing gaps remain filled while a long-term solution is formed.

Although NHS trusts throughout the nation are under pressure due to staff shortages, the nursing sector in Scotland is experiencing particular strain. At the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) annual congress in Glasgow last month, a survey was conducted amongst nurses that revealed a lack of faith in the NHS, with 12% believing the organisation could not keep up with the growing demand. Of the 1,000 nurses surveyed, nine out of ten in question said their workloads had increased, showing insight into the stress that the recruitment difficulties is bringing. The staffing gap looks set to grow however as statistics compiled by Donald Cameron, shadow health secretary for the Scottish Conservatives, showed that just under 18% of nurses in the Scottish area are aged 55 or over and are set to retire in the coming decade.

Nicholas Cavanagh, Operations Director at RMR Recruitment, says, “Nursing as a whole is undoubtedly under strain, as a lack of funding and plans to scrap the student bursary for nurses in training does little to encourage new waves of young people to enter the profession. Without new trainees an aging workforce is a concern, only widening the staffing gaps further as those with the relevant knowledge and skills retire. As the figures from Donald Cameron highlight, this worry is becoming highly prevalent throughout Scotland.”

Mr Cavanagh adds, “We represent a large amount of doctors and nurses who possess the skills and qualifications needed to ensure that shifts are never short of staff that are capable and versatile enough to complete the task at hand. As well as finding placements for RGN locum candidates across the area, HCA and nursing home locums are signed up to our locum agency, ready to fill staffing gaps all over the UK, including Scotland.”

RMR Recruitment has been helping the NHS to upkeep levels of care during its recent times of uncertainty, and currently supplies numbers of high quality locum Doctors to Scottish hospitals in need of staffing solutions. With a portfolio containing workers of all specialisms including RGN and HCA locums, as well as pharmacist, ambulance and A&E staff, RMR Recruitment offers a complete recruitment service for all of its clients.
