Theatre Breaks Competition Helps Drive Theatregoers to London
Renowned theatre holiday company Theatre Breaks is offering one lucky theatre-loving couple the opportunity to visit London and witness a world class musical theatre performance for free. The 2014 Theatre Breaks Competition will give one fortunate winner the chance to see a show from Theatre Breaks' World Class Musicals range and to stay overnight at one of Theatre Breaks’ 4 star hotels.
The competition is part of a new initiative by the company to get more people to experience London's theatres. As well as theatre and hotel packages aimed at theatre-goers from outside London, the initiative includes discounted theatre ticket schemes for midweek performances and school theatre trips giving students of all ages the chance to see a West End show and partake in theatre workshops to learn about what goes into putting a show on.
“Obviously we would like to see everyone come to see a West End show at least once in their life,” says Simon Harding of Theatre Breaks. “Whether that is as a youngster in a school group or as a couple celebrating a wedding anniversary on a romantic short break.
“Our World Class Musicals competition is part of us trying to make that wish a reality and features the choice of one of the two most popular shows in town: Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys.”
The 2014 competition is the first of what Harding promises to become an annual event.
Entrants have until 1st December to simply answer 10 questions on their theatregoing habits (or lack of them), including what is their all-time favourite musical.
Harding, who has been in the industry for over 30 years, continues: “We want to persuade new visitors to come to London and, by finding out what regular theatregoers have seen and would like to see next, we hope to make that job easier. What we learn will be combined with research we have been doing within the theatre industry on breaking down barriers-to-entry for novice theatregoers: this includes getting people to come to the theatre earlier in their lives and tackling issues of cost and availability.”
