As of this month, the only manufacturing plant in Kazakhstan to craft high-quality ceramic tiles for a wide range of purposes, has been reopened. The factory, which is located in the Aktobe region, originally stopped operation in 2009 but has been granted the permission and the funds to reopen, thanks in large part to government support. Not only has the plant reopened for business, but output has been increased to up to one million square metres of tiles per year. The Khromtau plant produces attractive and hardwearing natural ceramic tiles which can be found in thousands of homes, commercial buildings and government agencies all over Kazakhstan. Indeed, since the opening of the plant, many state contracts have been acquired and profits in the region are expected to soar.
The raw materials for the tiles, including clay and quartz sand, are mainly produced in fields local to the plant itself, and high-quality tile coatings are then purchased and imported from Italy to give them the superb finishing touches. The company in charge of operations at the plant believe that their natural stone tiles outperform many other products thanks to their quality combined with low prices.
The trend for Middle-Eastern wall and floor tiles is certainly no new revolution; the countries surrounding the Arabian Peninsula are renowned for crafting stunning tiles throughout history, largely in the form of mosaics. The Ottoman Empire, which reigned over the majority of this region throughout the 14th century, had their own signature tiles which involved symmetrical patterns and heavy references to nature, plants and animals. During the 15th century, the Arab motifs of interlinking florals and geometric patterns were inspiration across much of Europe, including Portugal, Spain and Italy. Saudi Arabia is nowadays prime exporter of stunning technical stone tiles, which combine natural crushed stone with a durable and attractive resin to create a stunning and authentic mosaic look, used in a whole manner of commercial and domestic situations.
The beauty and the popularity of these types of tiles has led many tile distributors across the UK to source them and add them to their ranges. TechTile London is well known for its ability to source stunning tiles from far-flung destinations and make them available to customers both commercial and domestic. The stones and the natural resources which go into crafting the ceramic and porcelain tiles at TechTile London come from the very best locations all over the world to ensure the highest quality and the most attractive finish.
